The Dr. Oz Problem of American Politics

He Doesn’t Even Life Here

I’m not voting in the Pennsylvania Republican Primary on Mary 17, so I’m still hopeful that I won’t get a chance to vote against Dr, Mehmet Oz. I have no faith in Republicans to do the right thing, but I hope that the fact he has dual American and Turkish citizenship will convince a bunch of people in the more racist part of the state not to vote for him.

Yes, I said that.

Republicans wield their racism as a battering ram against Democrats all the time, picking some sort of code to virtue signal their opposition to a candidate of color, a woman candidate, or god-forbid a candidate who is LGTBQ+ So I’m hoping that their casual racism and xenophobia will work against them this time.

Oz, who came to prominence when Oprah and a bunch of magazines that are a half step above tabloid trash promoted his outlandish medical claims, is running for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat. Which is problematic on all sorts of fronts.

Oz does not live in Pennsylvania

Oz spent most of his childhood in Delaware but lived in Phildelphia when he was going to medical school and business school. But for years his primary address has been in New Jersey. He only became a Pennsylvania voter this year when he registered to vote at his in-laws house.

The businessman who happened to have a medical degree, as bogus as it often seems, also is a huge stakeholder in Wawa, a non-public convenience store chained based in the eastern portion of the state, but he doesn’t live here.

How the hell can he run for Senate from Pennsylvania without living here?

Oz has claimed that if he wins the primary he;ll move here before the election but seriously how can that even mean he should be allowed to represent PA? The Republican field isn’t appealing in anyway but we should have already learned the lesson of what happens when you elect a nickel-slick con from New Jersey.

Oz is a doctor who promotes non-science

Oz is technically a board-certified cardiac surgeon, but the reality is he is a talk show host who will say damn near anything for better ratings. “more than half of Dr. Oz’s recommendations on medical talk series — including The Dr. Oz Show — had either no evidence or actually went against medical research, according to a study published in the British Medical Journal,” Distractify writes.

In 2015, a group of doctors asked that he be removed from his faculty position at Columbia University because of his repeated ignoring or science-based medicine. Oz replied that his talk show, “The Dr. Oz Show” was not a medical show.

Um what? You use your medical title in the name on the show but then say it’s not about medicine?

Oz received his MBA at the same business school Donald Trump attended and got that BEFORE he got his MD. The man is nothing short of a two-bit huckster who found that the medical credentials made him a better shill to the unwashed masses.

Pennsylvanians Deserve Better

I hope to never vote against Oz because I’ll be voting May 17 in the Democrat Primary. When it comes to the general election in November, I would like to see the Republican Party police their own and have gotten rid of the Trumpist-con, but I am not hopeful.
